How To Choose The Right Content Director For Your Site

673290_82296773A web site’s content level of “goodness” is determined by several factors. One very important factor is the actual person who is in charge of what is put on the site to begin with. This person is sometimes called a website content architect, content editor, Director of content and actually, there are many titles for this type of job, but you get my point. Just in case you did not get my point, I am basically saying that the person you choose for this incredibly important position, is the person that holds your web site’s future in their hands! Make sure they really grasp what the site is about.

Here is an intelligent way to see it their idea of your website matches yours, I call it “The ’site’ test”.

  • First: Ask them to list two or more sites that are similar to the niche’ they believe your site is in.
  • Second: Take a look at the content of those sites, and have two or more people you know look at the sites, to get their opinion of the content.
  • Third: If you, and your friends agree that the candidate chose sites with good content that matched your niche’ then great, however completely useless unless you and your friends happen to make-up your entire target market.
  • Fourth: An easy way to check, is to take the sites your candidate picked and see what sites like Alexa.com says the demographics are for each.
  • Fifth: if the demographics listed on Alexa match your target audience, your candidate might be a winner, but remember, I said might. Because again, whoever the person you choose to put in charge of your site’s content turns out to be, is the person that will inevitably make or break your site, so choose carefully.

    • If this person is you, give yourself the “site” test and see how you do. Ha, that rhymes.
